Age 16 Survey – Dietary diaries
To celebrate 50 years of BCS70, over the next 12 months we’ll be highlighting interesting features of the survey design, delving deeper into the questionnaires and pulling out descriptive statistics from the data.
During the Age 16 Survey, study members were given a 4-day dietary diary to complete. A total of 4760 participants provided usable dietary diaries, and researchers identified 1250 food items.
Dietary questions are included in six BCS70 surveys. This is a valuable resource for researchers, especially when combined with rich longitudinal data on other factors, such as region and socioeconomic background.
Teenage dietary habits may help us to understand adult eating patterns, and health outcomes such as obesity and diabetes.
